DURABILITY UNDER CLIMATIC CHANGE
An 8 x 8 rain vented screen wall assembly
as outlined in Appendix II was tested in accordance with CCMC proposed
standard practice for testing EIFS integrity under simulated exposure
to climatic cycling.
The wall panel was allowed to cure for 28
days at standard laboratory conditions, the sample was then preconditioned
for 28 days with the exterior side exposed to 24°C, with ambient
relative humidity.
Following the preconditioning the wall was
turned around and the interior side exposed to 30°C and 90% RH, while
the exterior side was exposed to the following exposure cycles for 20
days or 80 cycles. ·
Warm exposure of at least 2 hours at 15°C
at ambient relative humidity.
· During the last 30 minutes of the
warm exposure water is applied to the exterior wall.
· Cold exposure of at least 2 hours
at -20°C at ambient relative humidity.
· Transition between temperature took
no more than 1 hour for a total cycle time of 6 hours.
At the end of the test cycles there was no
cracking, blistering, or sagging of the basecoat. In addition, the finish
coat had a good hold on the basecoat and showed no signs of delamination,
blistering or crazing.
