DESCRIPTION: Note: The water penetration barrier is a coating installed
continuously over the substrate and around penetrations and openings
to provide, along with other built-in features, the second line
of defence against water infiltration reaching the structure.
"Preswitt Water Penetration Barrier"
is a weather resistant, polymer based, non-cementitious coating.
This membrane acts as a primary water-resistant and air barrier
ready to receive an EIFS System. The coating is flexible and vapour
permeable.
Gaps between sheathing boards shall
not exceed 1.5mm.
STORAGE: Store product in a
cool place out of direct sunlight and protected from the elements.
Maintain temperatures above 5°C (40°F).
ACCEPTABLE SUBSTRATES:
- Masonry/concrete
- Cementitous panels
- Glass-mat gypsum sheathing over wood or steel frame
- Sound dry plywood
COVERAGE:
Porous block 500 +/- sq.ft. / 20 litres
Smooth surface 1,000 +/- sq.ft. / 20 litres
Note: variation in spreading rate,
(or coverage), are due to the different porosities of different
surfaces. To obtain best protective properties, maintain a 10 -
20 mil total dry film thickness, (after two coats).
CLEAN-UP: Warm soapy water.
APPLICATION: Surface temperature
should be above 7°C. and air temperature should be between 10°C
and 30°C. Surface must be fully cured and dry. Do not apply
if rain or dew is expected within 6 hours. All loose materials,
oils, tar, greases, dirt or other contaminants must be removed.
Efflorescence should be removed by chemical or mechanical methods.
Cracks larger than 1/16" or missing mortar should be filled
with a latex or acrylic, (non-silicone), compound and allowed to
dry. Joints in sheathing boards must be coated with a joint
compound reinforced with glass-fibre mesh before applying WPB.
Spreading rates should be used to gauge film thickness during application.
WPB should not be over-spread as this will reduce the filling and
protective properties. WPB should not be applied in thicknesses
greater than the recommended as this may retard the curing and film
formation. When using rollers for application, avoid over-rolling
as this will develop foam in the film that may not leave prior to
setting. Do not apply in direct sunlight.
