FLEXCOAT QUALITY FINISH

DESCRIPTION
This textured finish is formulated with a 100% acrylic flexible emulsion. The coating offers the elongation properties that are necessary to bridge cracks in the substrate without rupturing. It accommodates expansion and contraction due to changes in the temperature. The finish maintains this flexibility in the coldest climates.
PROPERTIES
Exceptional elongation, highly flexible, bridges cracks and eliminates further cracks. Good adhesion to a variety of substrates. Other excellent properties of Flexcoat Quality Finish are breathability, water vapour transmission, UV stability, color retention, exterior durability and acceptable abrasion resistance.
APPLICATION
Flexcoat finish is a companion product to MP Flexcoat base. In conjunction with this product it is recommended as a coating over old or new masonry surfaces, concrete, stucco, or sand and cement base coats. The coating should be applied with a steel trowel, and can be textured with a plastic trowel if so desired.

With the M.P. Flexcoat as a base with glass web reinforcement the Flexcoat finish will provide superior impact resistance without cracking. The drying time depends on temperature and humidity. The temperature should be above 5ºC/40ºF for at least 48 hours during and after application. The coating can not be applied over frosty surfaces. The surface should be dry.
CAUTIONS
The material must not be used on exposed horizontal surfaces where pooled water may accumulate. Exposed to damp conditions (rain, fog, dew) the material will soften when freshly applied. The degree of softening will lessen with aging. The material can easily entrain air and mixing should be kept to a minimum. No water should be added. Protection from the weather should be provided until the finish is cured and permanent flashings and sealants are installed. The surface to be coated must be clean, loose and chalking material must be removed. Mildew and algae should be eliminated by chemical means to prevent reoccurrence.
APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS
Product
1. Store packaged materials in original containers with delivery and manufacturer's seals and labels intact, each production lot being handling identified by batch number shall be stored together.

2. During shipping, handling and storage protect materials from damage.

3. Store products in a cool, dry place out of direct sunlight, protected from elements.

4. Temperatures must be maintained above 5ºC/40ºF during shipping and storage.
Site Conditions
Ambient temperature must be no less than 5ºC/40ºF during installation and until the coatings are dry.
Protection
1. Protect adjacent areas from damage resulting from application of the material. All finish work shall be protected at the end of the day or completion of a section.

2. Wind, rain, humidity, extremes in cold and heat, all affect proper installation. The work must be protected from adverse weather conditions during the application and until coatings are dry.

3. Co-ordinate with other trades to ensure that flashings, caulking etc. are all installed as soon as possible after the system installation to prevent water penetration.
Inspection
1. Before commencing ensure that environmental and site conditions are suitable for the application.

2. The substrate shall be a type approved by Preswitt Manufacturing Ltd. All areas over which the material is to be applied must be sound, clean, dry, even and devoid of surface irregularities. Substrates must be free of ice and frost.

3. Ensure that all surfaces are free from loose particles, foreign materials, from oil and traces of any other releasing agents.

4. All discrepancies must be reported to the Architect or General Contractor, and rectified before work proceeds. Commencement of work indicates acceptance of conditions.
Application

Apply Flexcoat Finish to the surfaces of the substrate. The size of a convenient section to be prepared at one time depends on ambient temperatures and available manpower.

Examine the surface. The mesh must be completely embedded in the basecoat and not visible. All rough spots, irregularities, ridges etc., must be smoothed out to prevent imperfections telegraphing through to the finish coat.

Remove the lid from the pail and stir the material to ensure dispersion of the solids which may have separated during shipping or storage. Keep stirring to a minimum to prevent air entrainment.

Using a steel trowel, apply a coat of material, evenly. Texturing is achieved with a plastic or steel float.

Maintain a wet edge. Working to a dry edge will result in unsightly joints.

Precautions

Take these precautions when work must proceed during the following environmental conditions:-

Rain - Protect the surface until the applied finish is dry.

Freezing - Enclose the area and maintain the temperature above 5ºC/40ºF during application and until cured.

Heat - Work the cool side of the building. Cool the surface by applying a fog coat of fresh water. Shade the area from direct sunlight. Plan schedule so that the hot areas are only worked in the early morning.

Wind - Hot winds can have the effect of drying out the material too quickly creating application difficulties. Shield the area during these periods.
